The Oscars are a good way to hold an audience, especially when it’s for a good cause. Together with comedian Ellen DeGeneres and American singer Pharrell Williams, Lady Gaga urges people to find expressive ways to define love, via a spot which aired during the Oscars, on 26 February. Named “The Love Project,” the ad was directed by filmmaker Brett Ratner, known for “The Revenant” movie, and was made in collaboration with Revlon.
In the ad, the three stars share their idea of #Lovein3Words in the hope to raise money for a series of charities like Lady Gaga’s Born this Way Foundation, Pharrell’s educational organization From One Hand to AnOther, Women’s Heart Alliance, and the Trevor Project. To help spread the message of love, the cosmetics giant donated 1 million dollars to these charities. Through this project, the celebrities aim to promote the idea of sincere love and to create a better and more loving world.
The 30-second video focuses on the celebrities sharing their own definition of love. While in the background the “Million Reasons” song can be heard, Lady Gaga opens the video by delivering a very deep message: “Love is embracing everything you are,” adding later that for her “Love is being at [her] grandma’s house.”
Pharrell notes that “Love is shining a light in the dark,” while comedian Ellen saw Gaga’s message as a perfect opportunity to say in a funny way that she also loves “Lady Gaga’s grandma’s house.”
Basically, their message is that “Love is all we have.” Viewers are invited to share their definition of love in three words on theloveproject2017.com website.
Before the release of the official ad, Revlon launched a preview of the campaign, explaining there are a million reasons why the world needs more love. “If we can express what’s in our hearts and share it, we can expand the love and good in the world,” is the message that accompanies the video.
The Love Project platform had a real success, tracking about 1.6 million definitions of love on the first day since the release. The campaign’s mission is to point out the importance of love and its impact on transforming the world as we know it into a better place.
