A lot of us know the risk of going to tanning salons. Using tanning beds before the age of 33, increases your chance of developing melanoma by 75%. Yet when offered a free tan, many jumped at the opportunity, only to realize they weren’t actually there to receive a tan. The public stunt has passersby walk into what would be their funeral, a tanning bed replacing a casket. The campaign is sponsored by Mollie’s Fund, a non-profit dedicated to raising awareness of melanoma after Mollie Biggane, a college sophomore, passed away.
The campaign panders free sessions to passersby, which makes it seem like a whole lot of people are regularly going to tanning sessions, and the funeral is a bit dramatic, but the campaign does what it’s supposed to, and that is bring awareness to the serious risks of skin cancer.
