Mercedes-Benz has combined forces with European agency Antoni Berlin and Time Based Arts to introduce its new C-Class Cabriolet in a brilliantly crafted and day-dreaming-filled video. The TV spot, now labelled “Amazed Again”, reminds us of the unrestricted feeling of freedom that the “roofless” automobiles provide to their drivers. And, with Mercedes being one of the automobile giants, they put together an ensemble of world-class filmmakers, including Anorak Films’ director Sebastian Strasser, Wolf of Wall Street’s cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto, costume designer Mark Bridges, and production designer K. K. Barrett. The tagline “Time to Look up Again” previously used for this campaign skillfully suggests the ad’s story-line.
This visually intriguing vivid video filled with CG-created inflatable dragons, puffer fish, a giant mother and origami birds leads us through a lovable story of a young boy who we can see through a series of lifetime stages, losing the freedom and dreams he had as a child due to the roles and responsibilities of being a grown-up, only to re-discover those whilst driving the new C-Class Cabriolet and seeing the gigantic paper birds from his childhood cruising through the sky.
This might unintentionally, and yet fittingly, point to the company’s history when the company was named after the daughter of Emil Jellinek, a European automobile entrepreneur who introduced the first ‘modern car’, the Mercedes 35hp. In this hectic world full of noise, it seems that Mercedes is trying to show us how to slow down and allow ourselves to enjoy a moment of silence, peace, and little bit of daydreaming. Let us know if it’s working in the comments.
