We must agree, that there’s not much to innovate when it comes to pizza-making industry, apart from recent introduction of stuffed-crust pizzas, the spherical product has been loved by many all over the world as it is. So, well-established companies turn to clever marketing to promote their products – just a couple of months ago Domino’s Pizza offered America a “Pizza Payback” and last week Pizza Hut introduced the world’s first playable DJ pizza box.
The limited edition pizza boxes were created in partnership with printed electronics experts, Novalia, who worked with famous scratch DJ Qbert to create the world’s first interactive DJ Decks in an album cover. This time they use their innovative cardboard design to allow Pizza Hut UK’s customers to use their packaging of the Italian delicacy as a touch-sensitive DJ controller. It connects to your smartphone or laptop via Bluetooth and can be used pro DJ software, such as Serato. The pizza set-up consists of decks, a cross-fader and buttons that control volume and pitch, or the speed of each song. You can check Rinse FM’s DJ, DJ Vectra, showing you how it’s done in the video below.
This week, Pizza Hut UK is informing its customers on Twitter about places where they can find the #PizzaDJDecks and take them home to mix their favourite tracks as Kathryn Austin, Chief People & Marketing Officer at Pizza Hut, suggests: “Music and food is the ultimate combo – we know our customers love listening to their favourite tunes over a pizza and we’ve now given our collection customers the chance to combine and enjoy the two in the most innovative way.
Novelia also worked with TBWA\Neboko and McDonald’s to produce a musical placemat called McTRAX which was also made with conductive ink and connects wirelessly to your smartphone. Let us know in the comments which of these innovative uses of food packaging you prefer.
