If you have decided to admire not only the architectural and historical beauties of the capital of the Czech Republic – Prague – this or the next week, but also the local cuisine, you might end up over-eating yourself with all the tasty goulash, dumplings, roasted ducks or the filling “Svíčková”. DDB Prague and McDonald’s came up with a perfect, and witty, solution exactly for you.
The world leader in the fast food market, McDonald’s, has decided to collaborate with selected Prague pubs and serve foreign visitors with a daring joint campaign which is taking place from 30 August to 12 September. For a fortnight the travellers visiting the City of a Hundred Spires will be seeing the ads carried out by Prague branch of DDB and as the Creative Director Radouane Hadj Moussa explains: “The main idea of this campaign comes from the feeling of all travellers in a foreign country. Everyone likes to taste the local specialties, but after some time, many people prefer ordering a meal they are familiar with in their home countries”.
McDonald’s decided to offer their own ad space to promote their competition and invite tourists to Czech pubs and restaurants. On the other hand, when the visitors receive their bills, they will see a message saying “When you’ve had enough [of Czech cuisine], you know where to find us” together with a map of the nearest McDonald´s restaurants.
Zuzana Svobodová, the McDonald’s Director of PR communication for the Czech and Slovak Republic added: “It is a combination of two different worlds. We expect that foreigners arriving into the Czech Republic are eager to taste [traditional] Czech cuisine, however, at the same time we know that a significant part of our customers are just tourists. That is why we, in cooperation with Czech restaurants, want to wittily draw their attention both to the pearls of Czech cuisine and the reliance represented by McDonald´s restaurant”.
