More and more companies focus on creating a global discussion about male and female equality, and adequate and fair working environment for everyone. Latest campaign by Audi – aired during last weekend’s Super Bowl – shows how a father hopes that his daughter will be able to fulfil her dreams and work in a field she chooses without being valued “less than every man she meets.” The following campaign for UN Women aims to achieve a similar objective that equal representation creates a better workplace; while still bringing out a hard realization that: Finding women in —— shouldn’t be this hard! Literally!

Try finding women in Chemistry! (The easy version)

When working on a social-good campaign for the global champion for gender equality who UN Women is, Japanese studio IC4DESIGN aimed to introduce elaborate, almost maze-like drawings that shall point out how hard is to find women in three of the following fields: In science, politics, and in technology.

The task of finding women working around large groups of males does resemble the popular pastime of ‘Finding Waldo’ or ‘Where’s Wally?’ – a British series of children’s books created by the English illustrator Martin Handford. In these books, readers are challenged to find a character named Wally hidden in a series of detailed double-page spread illustrations depicting dozens or more people doing a variety of amusing things at diverse locations.

The award-winning studio based in Hiroshima, Japan, focuses on international illustration design and its strength lays in fun, detailed illustrations with a vast spread to advertising, book and website design, and editorial work. The illustration and graphic design teams produce dense, and incredibly detailed landscapes full of life and millions of characters for popular brands like Google, BURTON, The New York Times Magazine, Amtrak, Adobe Systems, Skittles, and Mercedes-Benz.

First, after receiving the client’s approval for UN Women illustrations, the designer chose the thickness of the lines and then drove the real lines while adding more and more detail with colouring added to the finish.

Yet, while finding Waldo might be a humorous task for many, finding women in the world’s most important fields should not to be such a hard task at hand. Take a look below and see how many women you can find without getting frustrated.

This brilliantly suggests the exact goal of UN Women – to fighting against such tendencies and to present women as hard working characters who develop and uphold standards while fighting for an environment in which every woman and girl should be able to exercise their human rights and live up to her full potential.
