If you’re searching for a cozy place to stay in Sweden through Airbnb, there’s something that may seem a little odd to you. To promote the wonderful landscapes of Sweden, their official tourism website, Visit Sweden came up with Sweden on Airbnb and boldly listed the entire Scandinavian state on the homestay network.
The country’s ‘rustic rooms’ are now available for anyone who wants to explore nature, sleep under the stars, leave the aurora borealis lights on for their frightened kids, take a bath in one of its beautiful lakes, or just enjoy a warm day with natural air conditioning.
Visit Sweden’s special offer encourages not only locals but also visitors, to go out and access any land they desire, and all for free. In Sweden, this concept is known as the freedom to roam principle, “Allemansrätten,” or rather The Right of Public Access: a law that gives people the right to explore nature, completely free of charge. Well, there’s an exception–you’ll only have to pay and show respect for the outdoors, without disturbing or destroying it, and obviously, without crossing beyond private lands.
Shot by Swedish creative agency Forsman & Bodenfors, the campaign delivers a simple, yet fascinating video tour of the amazing country. Speaking on behalf of 10 million people living in Sweden, the tour guide and narrator, Åke, presents every corner of the country. We are introduced to a relaxing chamber, a custom-designed terrace, a Swedish minimalistic style bathroom, and to a place where all the magic happens.
Do you know what the best part is? You can actually call a real Swede and ask them about this campaign! Roughly a year ago, the Swedish Tourist Association took action and boosted the country’s tourism activity through the Swedish Number campaign, allowing foreigners to call actual Swedish citizens– and won them a Grand Prix Lion at Cannes Lions 2016.
While the Swedish Number campaign permitted foreigners to dive into a small talk with some of the country’s citizens, the current expedition takes us right in the middle of the beautiful Nordic state. “Sweden on Airbnb” represents a small insight of what people are allowed to do when they check-in at the country’s most peaceful and quiet places. Explore the natural rooms of Sweden and let us know if they meet your basic renting requirements.
