We’ve already seen a flag that has been hoisted up so high that anyone can see it. Even visually impaired people were able to ’see’ the beauty of their Indian flag in a campaign that raises awareness about blind children. Still, Huesped Foundation—an Argentine organization aiming to guarantee access to healthcare and control of diseases—considers that this isn’t just enough. Flags should be raised to highlight other issues too. So, the institution didn’t keep its hands in its pocket and went great lengths to show that the world has other pressing issues that need to be resolved as quick as possible.
Just in time for the G20 Summit, which was held in Buenos Aires on December 1st—the same day of the World AIDS Day—the foundation decided to raise awareness (and some flags), so that it can attract the attention of the 20 most influential leaders in the world visiting Buenos Aires for the summit. The point? To get #HIVonAgenda, a subject that somehow didn’t get on the docket.
After almost zero recognition of the HIV / AIDS issue over the past decade, the organization, alongside agency Wunderman Buenos Aires, decided that it is time to cut the silence and speak out loud about this still serious problem. The timing was perfect! On this special day, the Buenos Aires-based agency hoisted 20 flags in an interactive manner as part of an immersive campaign that aimed to alert the attending world leaders about the persistent problems that are out there.
The campaign’s centerpiece was a large-scale interactive installation located on the esplanade of the Technological Science Pole. The panel showcased each country’s flag participating in the G20 Summit. It displayed the HIV statistics for each participating state, with each of the flags moving according to an HIV statistic attributed to the country. In case you missed the event, you can still check the stats on the online portal that the agency created to support this kind initiative.
The interactive website features unique infographics demonstrating a transformation of the flags of each nation into 3D animated bar graphs. Most importantly, it showcases why the HIV issue should be on the agenda of the G20 Summit.
The campaign was a success: HIV was mentioned in the final document, thanks to the struggle of Huesped Foundation actors. And the foundation and the agency want to achieve more. Now, they are curious to see how many of the promises will transform into reality. Stop unnecessary deaths and help the organization put #HIVenAgenda also in the forthcoming years!
For now, come and see what the current status of HIV is in the countries that were part of the G20 summit!
