We live in the 21st century and we are told the biggest lies ever: Global warming is a scam, immigrants are going to steal our jobs, the UK is paying 350 million per week to the EU, or that Brexit is something very easy to understand. Why would we want to settle and accept all of the lies that are told to us?
Coinciding perfectly with the controversial Brexit Day, which happened on 31st January 2020, a group of creative friends, such as Curro Piqueras, Lorenzo Foffani, Jaime Azurmendi, and Guglielmo Foffani, launched a peculiar type of wine. The drink was created as a metaphor for the lies that are spread in the public by politicians.
To mark this important day in the history of the UK, the bunch of creatives launched a provocative white Merlot, which they suggestively titled “LIAR Wine.” The alcoholic drink comes with fruity and floral notes. Although it is a white wine, red Merlot grapes were used to make it. Basically, it is a deception in its appearance. It was created to make people be confused even more than they already are.
LIAR Wine is just another product that doubles as a victim of Brexit’s uncertainty around trade agreements – Italian wine. The bunch of friends who developed the drink poured their creativity, imagination, branding, and product skills into this idea, only to highlight the fake news and lies that are spread by politicians in the lead up to Brexit.
Now, it comes down to us which kind of wine we want to drink: White because of its color, or red because of its grapes?
Speaking about the product they have made, Brand Director Lorenzo says: “Our ultimate dream would be to receive a wine order from No. 10.” Creative Director Curro nicely complements Lorenzo’s statement: “If you think about it, people buy lies all the time. Going back to basics – that’s our business model – selling a lie.”
“Like most people, we are exposed to the media, politicians, and social media on a daily basis. Eventually, we put our heads together and decided we need to take action. And we did. We made wine that echoes the times we live in,” says Jaime, also a creative director.
Product Director Guglielmo concludes: “Every brand will eventually start lying – worst of all at the point when you start trusting them. On that basis, we decided to lie openly from day one. That’s honest.”
It doesn’t matter how great or small a lie is: a lie is still a lie. And this is what makes us ask you: would you buy such a product knowing right from the start that it is a lie? Let us know your thoughts by sharing them with us in the comment section below!
