Do you know how many times kids ask their parents to get them a pet? Well, on average, they do this 11 times per month. During the holiday season, children pose the same question 18 times a month. For some, this hard work of theirs pays off, as two-thirds of parents eventually give in. And that, after three years (on average) of hearing the same question over and over again.

Most kids dream of having a dog. But if you don’t hear the same question as much it’s not because they have given up on the idea of having a furry companion. Maybe, they are trying a new way to convince you to get them a pet. Have you seen your kid’s drawings lately? Kids usually draw to express their emotions, dreams, and what they like, amongst many other reasons.

They dream about having an ideal pet so they often sketch the dog they wish for on paper, hoping that it will come to life eventually. Helped by agency BBDO NY, the PEDIGREE® brand turns itself into some kind of genie for these children, granting their wishes upon following three easy steps. It requires a doodle, a photo of the drawing, and reaching out to the Rescue Doodles program, which makes it pawssible to adopt the dog from your kid’s imagination.

You may be wondering how such a thing is possible. Thanks to the power of AI technology and a machine learning model, the program — powered by Adopt-a-Pet.com, a Kinship company — is able to find a real, adoptable dog that looks similar to the one in the painting. The grownups will then be guided to an available pup living nearby.

“Every dog deserves a loving home, and Rescue Doodles is the latest program in a long line of initiatives from the PEDIGREE brand promoting adoption,” explains Jean-Paul Jansen, Vice President of Marketing for Mars Petcare North America. “This program is unique because it takes a simple, everyday activity for children — doodling — and turns it into a fun way to add a new member to the family.”

“Matching dogs with potential adopters is central to what we do, and the Rescue Doodles program is a unique way to bring that to life that gets the whole family involved,” continues Dana Puglisi, Chief Marketing Officer at Adopt-a-Pet.com, a Kinship company. “We’re thrilled to partner with the PEDIGREE brand to power the Rescue Doodles platform using our network of shelters and rescues all across the country.”

Animal shelters in the US host around 3.1 million dogs every year, pets that are just waiting to find a forever home. Via the Rescue Doodles program, the number one brand of dog food and treats in the world continues its mission to provide help to all pups while also making the whole adoption process more fun and interactive for the entire family — even for the dog, which might probably want to thank its painted counterpart for helping it get a new home.
